50 Book Pledge Featured Read: The Huntress

Happy Monday, Savvy Readers! New Monday, new FEATURED READ!

The second I heard that Kate Quinn’s new book had hit the shelves, I knew I had to have it because I loved The Alice Network so much! But I didn’t know what to expect from The Huntress. Was reading it going to make me regret the hamburger I had for lunch? But all jokes aside, what it really turned out to be was a beautifully moving story of bravery, love, and justice, with just enough witty hilarity to make it hit the target.

The Huntress

My favourite thing about the book was the authentic and intriguing characters and the way the book jumps back and forth between their perspectives. You feel as though you get to know them like old friends.

Friends

There’s the wildly fearless Nina Markova, a soviet pilot with a beautiful heart and a saucy tongue. She dreams of flying and risks everything to join the legendary Night Witches, an all-female night bomber regiment that wreaks havoc on the invading Germans.

We also get to know Ian Graham, a British War correspondent who becomes a Nazi hunter after what he witnesses at Omaha Beach and the Nuremburg Trials. He devotes his life to catching war criminals and bringing them to justice. But his strongest motivation of all is his pursuit of personal revenge toward the one person who took away what he loved most in the world.

Finally, our third point of focus: American teenager Jordan McBride. She watches her new stepmother, a soft-spoken German widow with something to hide, through the lens of her camera. Her stepmother has everyone charmed, even Jordan, but she can’t shake the feeling that there is something not quite right about her…

And what brings these three characters together? You guessed it. The Huntress. A lethal Nazi murderess who committed horrific crimes, targeted Nina, killed Ian’s brother and has inserted herself into a quiet life in Boston, married to Jordan’s unsuspecting father.

Overall, what were learn from these characters’ intertwining lives is the consequences of war, the price some pay to seek justice and truth and how love, though unpredictable, can hold us all together.

The Huntress is this week’s 50 Book Pledge Featured Read! If you want to read about how the Huntress becomes the hunted, add it to your shelf today! Also, make sure to share your thoughts with us on Twitter @SavvyReader!

Happy reading,

Alice
