5 Books to Cozy Up With This Weekend

It’s cold out there, folks. Like, really, really cold. Yes, that makes commuting particularly nasty (speaking from bitter experience here), but it does give us an excuse to do one particularly wonderful thing: it gives us a reason to stay in under a blanket all weekend, with a great book and a warm cup of tea! Without further ado, here are some books you should consider curling up with this weekend.

The Perfect Girlfriend by Karen Hamilton

Of course the first book on this list is going to be our current 50 Book Pledge Featured Read! If you spent most of the holidays binge-watching You on Netflix like I did, then this book is right up your alley. I promise you, Joe Goldberg has nothing on Juliette.

The Gown by Jennifer Robson

Shifting gears just a bit, The Gown is the story of the royal wedding to end all royal weddings, told from the perspective of the women who made Queen Elizabeth’s famous dresses. Cool, right? And, again, if you’ve spent time in the past couple years binge-watching The Crown like the rest of us have, then this book is perfect for you!

Educated by Tara Westover

Educated has been the (non-Michelle Obama) book of the year, so if you’ve already read it, I apologize. For those of you who may have missed it, you need to read this incredible TRUE story. It’s better to know as little about Tara’s life as possible before going into this one, but just know this: the first time she set foot in a classroom was when she was seventeen. Yes, you read that right. SEVENTEEN. We don’t have a Netflix comp for this one, but it’s definitely the ideal read for fans of The Glass Castle.

Living Debt-Free by Shannon Lee Simmons

Alright, this one is a huge departure, but let’s all admit something collectively… The holidays are expensive. Like, really, really, really… ridiculously expensive. For the, like, 20th year in a row, I spent way more than I had budgeted for myself, and I need some help. Thankfully, Shannon Lee Simmons, author of Worry-Free Money and founder of the New School of Finance, is here to help us cure our post-holidays (financial) blues!

How To Stop Time by Matt Haig

Returning once again to the magical world of fiction, this book is one that we’ve talked about a lot here at the Savvy Reader, mostly because we all love Matt Haig so much. But, in terms of comfort books that are perfect to cozy up with on a cold winter’s weekend, I don’t think anything tops the charming tale of Tom Hazard and his adventures in time travel romances. Bonus: Matt Haig has a new book coming out at the end of January! It’s called Notes On A Nervous Planet and is a follow-up to Reasons To Stay Alive!

There you have it, folks. These are some of the most perfect books to cuddle up with this weekend. What will you be reading this weekend? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter @SavvyReader!

Oh, and by the way, the 50 Book Pledge is now live AND we have a brand new Facebook group! So, while you’re cozying up with these books this weekend, make sure you’re also logging it on your 50 Book Pledge and discussing it in our group!

Enjoy the first weekend of 2019, Savvy Readers!
