Our Favourite Book Boyfriends

Did you know that today is National Boyfriend Day?! Let’s talk about those characters that make our literary hearts skip a beat. The ones that make you stare off into space . . . . *sighs*.

The Hating Game

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

First up, we have Joshua Templeman. Now someone, somewhere once said that love and hate come from the same place: the heart (or maybe I just said that). ANYWAY! This here is a book boyfriend that will give you all the *feELs*. An adult version of the “if he is mean to me he likes me” premise. And, really, we always have room for a boyfriend that keeps us on our toes (witty banter for the WIN).

Khalid. Oh, Khalid. Now here is a boy whose stubbornness makes a girl want to tear her hair out. But in an endearing way, like “I can’t believe you just said/did that” way. In a way that makes you shake your head while laughing. Oh, Khalid.

The Hate U Give

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

I’ll tell you one thing. Starr Carter has WAY better boy-sense than I did when I was in high school. I would have loved a sweet, caring, sensitive, texts-you-back boyfriend. Let me introduce you to Chris. Chris who comes to life on screen by KJ Apa (AKA Archie in Riverdale). Makes the fictional boyfriend thing a whole lot easier to picture (that is for sure!).

Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening and The Struggle by L.J. Smith

Damon. Salvatore. I know you know who I am talking about. And if you don’t BOY OH BOY (or should I say MAN OH MAN). This wouldn’t be a proper boyfriends list if there wasn’t at least one bad boy. The kind that we know is oh so bad but what if we are the ones to make him oh so good.

Lonely Hearts

The Lonely Hearts Hotel by Heather O’Neill

Now I know you aren’t supposed to pick book boyfriend favourites bbbbuuuutttttt . . . Pierrot has a big piece of my heart. This is that boyfriend that is tender and vulnerable and just *MagiCAl*. It has the quality of a first love because even though he is seriously flawed there is just this nearly endless forgiveness. Oh and when you hear him play the piano *sighs*.

The book of M

The Book of M by Peng Shepherd

Now this one ladies and gentleman is the boyfriend that will go to the ends of the world for you. It might even be the end of the world (for all we know). I am talking about Ory. He is the definition of actions speak louder than words (I just did that full body heart squeeze just thinking about it). The one that would definitely pick you over spending a night with ‘Da Boyz’.

SIMON. Oh, this is the awkward, well-mannered and shy boyfriend we all had in school. The one where nothing happened because you were both too shy to talk to one another. But OH how sweetly things played out in your head. Even better though is the fact that this is also the cute boy that reminds you that love is being pushed out of your comfort zone.
