1. Classic Novels as Vintage Travel Posters
As part of “The Great American Read,” a new TV series and reading initiative that looks at America’s 100 most beloved novels, a collection of travel posters has been created of of destinations from some of some classic novels as holiday spots. 2. Man Wins Bookshop in a Raffle
Imagine waking up to find out you’ve won the keys to your very own bookshop! That’s what happened in Wales this week. Paul Morris, who opened the independent bookstore Bookends four years ago, raffled off ownership of the store after deciding to retire early due to worsening osteoarthritis. Anyone who spent more than £2o was eligible to enter the raffle to win the store. The winner, Ceisjan Van Heerden from the Netherlands, told reporters that he was “so shocked” to hear that he’d won. Van Heerden will take ownership of the shop in November and plans to run it with a friend. Read more here.
3. Dumplin’ coming to Netflix!
Netflix has picked up the film adaptation of Julie Murphy’s Dumplin’ and will be releasing the film later this year! Dumplin’ is the story of a teenage girl who takes on her small town’s beauty pageant, revolutionizing their small Texas town. The movie stars Jennifer Anniston and Patti Cakes$ star Danielle Macdonald, and heavily features Dolly Parton songs, old and new. Although no date has been set, the film is set to be released later this year. Read more here!
4. Vote for the Summer 2018 HCC Fan Choice!
It’s a new season, Savvy Readers! That means that HarperCollins Canada is looking for a new Fan Choice pick!
