50 Book Pledge Featured Read: Pieces of Her

Hey, Savvy Readers! How is it already the end of August?!?! Time flies when you’re reading great books!

Karin Slaughter’s new novel, Pieces of Her should be next on your TBR because it is INCREDIBLE. This suspenseful thriller is a roller coaster of a read, and it might just be your favourite book of the summer.

Andy and her mother Laura are incredibly close. Andy moved back home to Michigan after Laura was diagnosed with cancer, and she now spends most of her time with her estranged parents. Andy knows everything about her mother, about how she’s lived her whole life in their sleepy beachside town and has always wanted to lead a simple life within the quiet community. Except that’s not quite the truth – Andrea doesn’t know Laura quite as well as she thinks…

Both Andy and Laura’s lives are turned upside down during a trip to the local diner when a gunman opens fire on patrons. In an act of bravery spurred on by a mother’s love, Laura inadvertently reveals her secret. For almost thirty years she’s been hiding from her previous identity, lying low in the hope that no one would ever find her. But now she’s been exposed, and nothing will ever be the same again.

Laura’s innocence and safety are on the line, and Andy must desperately track down clues that reveal more about her mother’s dangerous past.  Flashing back and forth between present day and 1986 when Laura was involved with an amateur terrorist cell, secrets are revealed and culminate in a shocking finale.

Karin Slaughter is the master of weaving a story together. This is a fast-paced, engrossing story. I loved the strong female roles and Andy and Laura’s mother-daughter relationship. You will be racing through each chapter to learn more about Laura’s backstory and find out how it will all end. And trust me, the payoff is worth it.
