Savvy Readers, are you ready for a great summer read? BONUS: by a Canadian author?! Of course you are! You HAVE to check out Little Green by Tish Cohen!
Little Green asks (and answers) how much pressure can a marriage take?
Elise Sorenson has been striving for the Olympics as long as she can remember. The months of intense training and competition in the horse show world take her away (far too often) from her husband, Matt, and their eight-year-old daughter, Gracie. Matt is a lawyer who has made huge sacrifices in his career to be Gracie’s primary caregiver and support Elise in pursuing her dreams. This was the deal Elise and Matt struck, but it’s no longer working.
When their finances and relationship become strained to the point of snapping, and they’re forced to sell the lakeside cabin that has been in Matt’s family for generations so that they can pay for yet another year of Elise’s dream, not to mention the physiotherapy Gracie needs for her disability.
Matt, Gracie, and Elise arrive in Lake Plaid to prepare the cabin for sale, and Matt is taken aback by the frosty reception from the locals who’ve always revered his family. What could have possibly changed? But all their worldly problems fade when the unthinkable happens to their daughter, leaving them in a panic.
As the fault lines in Elise and Matt’s marriage crack wide open, long-held resentments and blame come bursting to the surface. This novel is about a strained marriage between two people who genuinely love each other. I found myself rooting for the couple, despite my distaste in some of their actions. The characters in Little Green are just so human—flaws and all.
This compelling new novel from Canadian author Tish Cohen is so engaging and so unique. It’s happy and sad all at once. It’s a page-turner, something you’ll want to read in one sitting. It’s perfect for a rainy afternoon or a day at the beach! And it will also look amazing on your bookshelf… just saying.
If you liked Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies, this one is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat as Tish Cohen explores how our truest selves are revealed in our very darkest moments.
