1. Jon Klassen and Others to Receive the Order of Canada
Governor General Julie Payette announced 105 new appointments to the Order of Canada, and 15 of them are members of the CanLit community. One of the inductees is children’s illustrator and writer Jon Klassen. His illustrations for books like The Nest and Pax are stunning! Read the full list of CanList inductees here. Congratulations to all!
2. The Rule of 50

Nancy Pearl wrote an interesting piece for the Globe and Mail this week about learning that maybe, just maybe, you don’t have to finish every single book you start. She explained her Rule of 50: give a book 50 pages, and if you’re not liking the book by the bottom of the 50th page, drop it. What do you think about this rule? Would it help you read more? The renowned and anonymous artist Banksy has stepped in to save 17 libraries in Bristol from closing. The mayor of Bristol, Marvin Rees, confirmed this week that Banksy would offer financial support: “A very well known person from Bristol wrote in and asked us the nature of the challenge and to outline what support we need as a city to meet that challenge and that person was Banksy.” Read more about the announcement here!
