Happy long weekend Friday, Canadian Savvy Readers! We’re expecting a heat wave over the long weekend so I hope you have some fun and cooling activities planned (reading all day inside with the AC on is totally acceptable in my mind). But, before you get your weekend started, here are the bookish news stories that caught our eye this week!

1. The Hate U Give Trailer is Out!!

Who else cried while watching this trailer? Based on Angie Thomas’ bestselling novel The Hate U Give, this deeply affecting and important movie stars Amandla Stenberg as a teenager rising up after an injustice. Prepare your tissues now and let us know if you’re planning to see The Hate U Give in theatres on October 19th!

2. The Woman in the Window Movie Date Announced

In more movie news, next October (October 4th, to be exact) will see the release of the The Woman in the Window adaptation based on A.J. Finn’s bestselling novel. This Hitchcockian thriller entered the New York Times Bestseller List at #1, making it the first debut novel in 12 years to do so. Check it out here before going to see the movie next year!

3. A Kid Shares Why He Wouldn’t Recommend a Book to His Friend

Would you recommend your favourite book to a friend? This week, a kid’s comment went viral when he explained his reasoning for keeping his treasured book away from his friend (it’s hilariously relatable!). See what he said here.

4. How to Save a Book From Water Damage

If you’re prone to clumsiness, this might come in handy! BoingBoing.net found this video from Syracuse University Libraries where they share their expertise on how to save a book from water damage. Who knew freezing a book actually could help!? Read more here.
