50 Book Pledge Featured Read: Hysteria

The closer she gets to the truth, the faster it slips away.

Are you ready for a whirlwind read, Savvy Readers? Cozy up, because you won’t be putting this one down!

Hysteria by Elisabeth de Mariaffi opens with a teenage Heike Lerner escaping from war-torn Germany. A few years later, Heike’s life looks pretty perfect from the outside. She’s settled into an easy routine of caring for her young son, Daniel, and spends her days wandering the woods near their summer house. Her nights are filled with clinking glasses and charming conversation. It all helps to keep her mind at ease… or at least that’s what her husband, Eric, tells her.

But lately, Heike’s noticed that there are some things out of place. She witnesses strange things happenings at the mysterious abandoned cabin set back in the trees. A strange little girl surfaces alone at the pond one day, then disappears. And at home, Eric is becoming increasingly more controlling.

In this seemingly idyllic setting, all is not what it seems. Especially when the unthinkable happens: Daniel, her son, disappears when her and Eric are at a party one night. Obviously desperate to find her son, Heike is willing to try anything, but Eric insists on a calm that feels so cold she wonders if she can trust him at all. Could Eric be involved in Daniel’s disappearance?

Hysteria is a book that you will NOT be able to put down once you start it, so, like I said—get cozy! The only problem I had with this book was how quickly it ended! Elisabeth is right—”All the best stories start with a girl alone in the woods.”

An all around terrifying, creepy, and unique thriller that will have you flipping the pages and your heart pounding. Get ready to be hooked!
