Welcome to the first Bookmarks of the year, Savvy Readers! We hope you’ve had an incredible holiday and that you’re ready for a fun year of reading ahead (with the help of the 50 Book Pledge, of course!). As usual, fun bookish news never stops coming, so we’ve been diligently collecting our favourite news, links, and photos of the week to share with you all. So, without further ado, let’s get started!
1. Win the Most Anticipated Book of 2018 (!!)
2018 is starting off strong! One of the most highly anticipated books of the year, The Woman in the Window, went on sale this week and the 50 Book Pledge is offering you a chance to win it! All you have to do is sign up for the pledge here and enter to win here. Trust us, you won’t want to miss this book. Learn more about it here.

In this week’s heartwarming news, the Washington Post shared the unconventional literary love story of Lucy Kalanithi and John Duberstein. Kalanithi and Duberstein were both spouses to late memoirists (Paul Kalanithi, who wrote When Breath Becomes Air, and Nina Riggs, who wrote The Bright Hour) and eventually found a connection with each other. Click here to read more (and prepare to shed a few happy tears).
3. Book to Movie Adaptations to Watch This Winter
In case you missed it, there are a TON of book to movie adaptations coming this winter and they all look amazing! To make things easier for us, CBC Books has compiled a list of “14 book-to-movie adaptations to watch in the first half of 2018” — including Love, Simon, Annihilation, and The Leisure Seeker! See the full list here. Which ones are you most excited about seeing, Savvy Readers?

Favourite Tweet of the Week:
Starting 2018 off with words of wisdom from J.R.R. Tolkien, on what would have been his “twelfty-sixth” birthday (in Hobbit years, of course). #TolkienBirthdayToast #TolkiensBirthday pic.twitter.com/UIG0plgGp8

It would have been J.R.R. Tolkien‘s “twelfty-sixth” birthday this week and we love the quote our friends at HarperCollins Canada chose to celebrate it! Do you have a favourite J.R.R. Tolkien quote? Share it with us on Twitter @SavvyReader or in the comments below!
Alright, Savvy Readers, we hope you’ve enjoyed this edition of Bookmarks! As always, don’t forget to tag us in fun book news that you think we may have missed. We love hearing from you!
