Happy Monday, Savvy Readers!

In The Child Finder, Madison Culver goes missing. She would be eight years old now, three years had passed since she disappeared from her family in Oregon’s Skookum National Forest.

Madison’s parents enlist the services of Naomi, a private investigator with the ability to find the lost and missing. Known to the police as “the Child Finder”, Naomi has solved countless missing persons cases. Naomi agrees to take the case, and the search takes her deep into the icy, mysterious forest, and into her own past. Naomi, too, was a lost girl, once upon a time.

As Naomi tries to uncover the truth into Madison’s disappearance, she begins to unlock pieces of her own past that have left her reeling from a terrible loss long ago.

This book deals with difficult subject matter, but Denfeld is a master wordsmith and writes so beautifully. The Child Finder is atmospheric and emotionally charged, and is one of my favourite books of this year.

The story is haunting and will stay with you long after you close the book. I stayed up late a few nights in a row just to finish  The Child Finder because I needed to know how it ended!

Rene Denfeld will be touring Toronto and Calgary this Fall as part of HarperCollins Canada’s Killer Crime Club! Learn more about the Killer Crime Club and tour details here.
