Happy Friday, Savvy Readers! Welcome to another weekly installment of Bookmarks. This is where we fill you in on all of the bookish news, links, and sometimes tweets that happened throughout the week! So, here’s what happened in the book world this week:
1. Start Your Summer With Some Blockbuster Reads
Summer is the season of blockbuster movies! So, in the spirit of the season, Book Bub has shared a fun list of 21 books that have secured movie rights before they even went on sale! See the full list here. (And, to get even more into the summer spirit, consider our book and ice cream pairings here.)
2. CBC Books Gets a New Look
New season, new look! CBC Books unveiled their new and refreshed website this week and it looks amazing. Click here to explore the new site. What do you think?
3. What Happens When a Novelist’s Computer Crashes?

It’s everyone’s nightmare to be working on something only to have a computer crash unexpectedly. (Fun fact: Writing this point made me compulsively save my drafts.) But, I’d imagine this would be even more heartbreaking to an author — especially if they hadn’t saved their work-in-progress since 100 pages ago. Well that exact scenario happened to this writer and — surprise! — they decided to write about it for NPR. Read all about this terrifying experience here.
4. It’s (Unofficially) George R. R. Martin Week
I know a lot of people, myself included, are very excited for the 7th season premiere of Game of Thrones this weekend. But that’s not the only thing to anticipate from George R. R. Martin: this week, it was announced that he will be the Executive Producer on a new show developed by HBO. The show will be adapted from Nnedi Okorafor‘s 2010 novel Who Fears Death. Read more about this partnership on Martin’s infamous LiveJournal blog here.
5. Behind on your 50 Book Pledge? Here’s Some Help…
Can you believe we’re already halfway through 2017? If you’re behind on your 50 Book Pledge goal (or are working towards surpassing it), you’re in luck! You can now stock up your e-reader with 50 e-books under $5 each. Yes – it’s true! Click here to find your next five star read.
