So when Dennis the Prescott‘s Eat Delicious came out, I rejoiced. It is the most beautiful cookbook EVER.
Trust me, Dennis’ foodstagram game is strong.

To celebrate the release of the book, I decided to try a little experiment: I would cook out of Eat Delicious for an entire week. My cooking style is generally to throw things together, so I was curious what it would be like to follow recipes from a cookbook (and specifically a beautiful one!).
I started off the week by flipping through Eat Delicious and figuring out exactly what I wanted to make. It was incredibly hard to narrow down my choices because I want to try everything in this book!! I tried as many recipes as I could throughout the week, and I want to share my favourites with you:
Noodle Bowls with Crispy Chicken and Peanut Sauce
I ADORE food with any type of noodles, so I was very excited to try this one! Aside from marinating the chicken, the dish was pretty quick to pull together, and the results were fantastic! Crunchy vegetables, crispy and salty chicken, and sweet tangy peanut sauce all made for a refreshing, colourful meal (hello, Instagram likes!!). Best of all were the leftovers I was able to take for lunch all week!
Coriander-Espresso-Rubbed Sirloin with New Potatoes, Corn, and Chimichurri
I consider myself a pretty good cook, but I have never been able to cook steak. But reading the step-by-steps methods for cooking steak in Eat Delicious, I was willing to give it a try for the sake of this week-long experiment. And guess what—I didn’t screw it up! The coriander-espresso rub created intensely flavourful steaks. I served them with roasted potatoes and corn, and the meal was delicious! And while I was pleased with the flavours, I was unhappy with the presentation. How come my plate didn’t look like Dennis’ plate? My plating skills still need work…
Sweet Potato and Turmeric Buddha Bowls
I’m already a huge fan of Buddha bowls (translate: throw whatever ingredients you have in the fridge on top of rice and call it a meal), so I was eager to try this. And holy moly, this one packed a huge hit of flavor!! What I love about these recipes is how easy they are to make and how easy the cleanup is. These are *perfect* for weekday dinners.
Crispy Lemon-Oregano Chicken Tray Bake
While it’s hard to choose my favourite recipe of the book, this one is definitely close to the top. First of all, it was so easy to pull together. A quick overnight marinade, and then all the ingredients spread on a baking sheet and thrown in the oven! The results? A beautiful and scrumptious weeknight meal (plus, again, leftovers!)!
So after a week of cooking all these delicious meals, I have to say, I’m pretty full. But I learned a lot this week!
It’s a lot easier to eat healthily when you have a plan. Instead of coming home from work and ordering pizza (which I never do, I swear!), this week I looked forward to trying new recipes and cooking well-balanced meals. It was especially easy when reheating leftovers for lunch or dinner the next night!
While I’ve got a long way to go, my #foodstagram game definitely showed signs of improvement as the week went on. The recipes in Eat Delicious are visually stunning and make for some great shots! I am especially excited to try some more of these recipes for dinner parties – they make great sharing plates.
I saved SO much time by meal prepping at the beginning of the week! It was so much easier to do one big grocery shop on Sunday instead of multiple times during the week. With all the time I saved shopping and figuring out what to eat, I could enjoy extra reading!!
Lastly, I learned that cooking is fun! I really enjoyed trying new recipes and working with different ingredients. What I like about Eat Delicious is how diverse the recipes are. Dennis the Prescott pulls recipes from so many different cultures, which makes for a very flavourful experience!
