1. Canada Reads Shortlist and Champions Announced

It’s almost that time again! Canada Reads is an annual battle of the books competition hosted by the CBC. This year’s contenders were announced this week and they all look fantastic. (Time to add them to our 50 Book Pledge and claim the Canada Reads badge!) Have you read last year’s winner, The Illegal by Lawrence Hill, yet?

2. Sandra Martin Wins 2017 British Columbia National Award for Canadian Nonfiction

For her book on the right to die movement and physician-assisted death, Sandra Martin has won the BC National Award for Canadian Nonfiction! Click here to learn more about Martin’s award-winning book, A Good Death, and here to read the Vancouver Sun’s article on the win. Congratulations, Sandra!

3. Taraji P. Henson Delivers Powerful Acceptance Speech on Behalf of the Hidden Figures Cast

The SAG Awards were this past weekend and the Hidden Figures cast took home one of the top prizes! Representing the cast in accepting the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, Taraji P. Henson gave an impassioned speech.
