Hi Savvy Readers!
I hope you’ve all had a great week and that you have fun plans for the weekend (AKA reading). This week, sooo many fun things happened – from the Giller Prize longlist being announced, to an amazing new thriller being our featured read, to new badges and wrapping up contests. The fun is never-ending!!!
The 50 Book Pledge
This past week, we read almost 3,000 books (and that’s not including the stragglers that haven’t updated their shelves yet this week!). That put us on pace to read 148,868 books – just 1132 books away from being on pace to reach our community goal of 150,000! We’re 68% complete! We got this.
This Week’s Featured Read
If you’re looking for your next exciting psychological thriller, it’s here! The Perfect Girl was this week’s Featured Read. We were so happy to see how many of you were reading it along with us. Gilly Macmillan, author of What She Knew, brought us a can’t-put-it-down suspense story that will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. If you haven’t picked it up yet and think you can handle waiting, you can win an advanced copy of this book on Goodreads! Here’s what our fellow readers thought:
“The Perfect Girl was a multi-layered tale of the various secrets, lies, and hidden moments that make up the lives of the characters.” – Laurel-Rain via Goodreads
“I literally read through the night – this is a fantastic read.” – NicShef♥Reading via Amazon.ca
“Outstanding book touching on topical issues, with interesting and complex characters” – A Tse via Amazon.ca
“Macmillan weaves together everyone’s stories in a way that makes you forget you’re not part of the family.” – Rya via thesavvyreader.com
This Week on the Savvy Reader
Tuesday September 6 – What We’re Reading This Month
This week, we let you know what we’re reading to kick off the fall season – everything from A House Without Windows, to Commonwealth by Ann Patchett, to the latest Hercule Poirot mystery, Closed Casket. What’s going on you Read shelf this month?
Tuesday September 6 – A Middle Grade Must-Read: One Half from the East
As you know, we’re die-hard Nadia Hashimi fans (okay that sounded a little dramatic, but we really do like her books). So when we heard she had a new book coming out, we knew we had to tell you all about it right away (even if it is targeted at middle-grade readers). Read it now and earn our newest badge!
Wednesday September 7 – Savvy Savings
We know you, like us, love a good book deal (or three), so we shared our latest eBook deal findings with you this week including The Queen of the Tearling for just $1.99 (!!!!). Check the rest out here and take advantage of the deal before it’s too late!
Thursday September 8 – Perfect Pairings: Books and Snacks
We figured nothing’s more perfect than books and snacks except for snacks and books… so we brought you snack suggestions to go along with your latest readings. Yum!
Friday September 9 – Bookmarks
Friday’s are always the best because Karen brings us the most fun book news. This week, she talked all about the Scotiabank Giller Prize Longlist, told us some exciting news about Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda (!!), and even more exciting news about Olympian Simone Biles! Check it out!
Rewards & Contests
This week we introduced a – heavily requested – Nadia Hashimi Badge. Read any of her lovely books to receive it!
Our Fall Fiction Reads giveaway has wrapped up! We are so excited to share these books with our lucky winner, Shaylene from Manitoba! The Fall Nonfiction giveaway we hosted on the 50bookpledge.ca has also ended (but psst… Bookperk subscribers received an exclusive chance to enter – sign up for Bookperk and you, too could get access to these exclusive opportunities!), and we will be announcing the winner shortly!
We’ve already told you what next week’s featured read will be on Twitter @SavvyReader! You can also enter to win it on Goodreads right now! Next week we’ll be introducing another new badge, more fun posts (anyone need a new colouring book?), and special deals for our special friends!
