Hello, Savvy Readers! We can’t believe there are only two more months in this year’s 50 Book Pledge! We started our November with an extra hour of reading, and we can’t wait to share with you what the rest of the The Savvy Reader team is reading this month… From books that will tug on your heartstrings to supernatural young adult fiction, there’s truly something for every type of reader here.
Shannon is reading The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom:
“This November, I’m reading The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom, because I love everything he writes. I have been anxiously awaiting this new book because it focuses on music, one of Mitch’s passions, and tells the story of the greatest musician on earth and the lives he changes through his music. It even has a corresponding playlist! Music and Mitch Albom, what more could I ask for?”
Suman is reading Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor
“I’m so excited to be reading Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink and Jeffery Cranor since I’m a huge, huge, huge fan of the Night Vale podcast. So far the book is witty, strange, and weird in the best possible way. I love the characters of Night Vale so much and can’t wait to see how this story ends! If you’ve never heard the podcast before, be sure to check out our favourite quotes from the show.”
Catherine is reading Grandpa’s Great Escape by David Walliams:
“This month, I’m reading Grandpa’s Great Escape by David Walliams. Roald Dahl was one of my favourite authors as a kid, and David Walliams has the same combination of wacky humour and huge heart. I am loving this book about connecting with your family, and all the incredible, surprising things you can learn by talking to your parents and grandparents!”
Karen is reading The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness:
“I absolutely LOVED The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness. (I can’t stop and won’t stop raving about it!) It was my first time reading anything by him and it definitely won’t be my last. While the background story in The Rest of Us Just Live Here is fantastic and strange (mysterious lights that have been killing Chosen Ones!), its main characters are universally relatable. Whether you’re about to start a new chapter in life, have secrets you feel like you could never share, or are simply just trying to get by, you will love this book.”
Kaiti is reading A Girl’s Best Friend by Lindsey Kelk
“A Girl’s Best Friend is the third book in Lindsey Kelk‘s charming (and hilarious) About a Girl series. The “Girl” in question is Tess, who we first met when she “borrowed” her roommate’s Nikon and headed to Hawaii posing as a professional photographer. Now, Tess is back and leaving the UK for New York City — just in time for the holidays. It’s the perfect book to read as the temperature drops and the town is painted red and green (because November 1st is an appropriate time to start reading Christmas novels and watching Love Actually, right?)”
