1. Rosemary Sullivan‘s Stalin’s Daughter wins the 2015 Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfiction
Stalin’s Daughter is a work of narrative non-fiction on a grand scale, combining popular history and biography to tell the incredible story of Svetlana Stalina, a woman fated to live her life in the shadow of one of history’s most monstrous dictators. During the writing process, Sullivan had the full co-operation of Svetlana’s American daughter Olga. Not only am I excited to see Heather O’Neill‘s Daydreams of Angels and Rachel Cusk‘s Outline on the list, I’m also thrilled to see some independent publishers recognized as well. I recently read Fifteen Dogs by André Alexis and I loved it. Who are you rooting for this year? Share your picks in the comments!
