Bookmarks: July 24th

Bookmarks is back! Fall is the busiest season in publishing — new books, award news, movie updates — and we at The Savvy Reader want to make sure you’re on up-to-date with Bookmarks, a weekly round up of news, images and links. Though Fall isn’t for another few months, there’s been some pretty exciting books news recently that we couldn’t wait to share it all with you. Scroll down for news about some of our favourite authors and books, including The Rosie Project casting news, John Green‘s newest film adaptation, and more!

Don’t have time to read them right now? Bookmark these pages in your favourites and revisit them sometime over the weekend.

1. As of Tuesday, Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee had sold over 1.1 million copies in North America alone. This is an incredible feat for this long-awaited novel, and a testament to To Kill a Mockingbird‘s timelessness. We loved all of the excitement across the internet since its release on July 14th and shared some of our favourite posts here.

2. HCC Frenzy‘s favourite book of the year is being made into a movie! Rights for the film adaptation of Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy have been acquired by Disney, Variety reports. You guys, regardless of whether or not you read YA, you MUST read Dumplin’ when it goes on sale in September. It’s a must, must, must not miss for these five reasons.

3. We’ve known for a while that The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion is going to be made into a movie (the story itself did originate as a screenplay, you know). BUT, The Hollywood Reporter revealed some pretty exciting news last week: Jennifer Lawrence, of The Hunger Games and Silver Linings Playbook fame, has been cast as Rosie! How perfect is that!? Now we can’t to see who will be cast as Don… any ideas?

4. Paper Towns, the film adaptation of John Green’s 2008 novel, is releasing in theatres today! Apart from a few lucky fans who participated in the #NightOnTheTowns festivities last night, John Green readers will be heading to Cineplex this weekend to see the film. Will you be one of them!?

5. And, something for fun: Click here to see how this group of students decorated an empty locker bay in their high school… (Thanks Upworthy!)
