Harper Lee to Publish Second Novel

On Tuesday, February 3rd, The Associated Press broke the year’s biggest literary news:

Yes, you read that right. Harper Lee, author of To Kill a Mockingbird, is publishing her second novel.

It is called Go Set a Watchman, and was originally written by Lee prior to penning To Kill a Mockingbird. Of the novel, which is set in the mid-1950s and follows Scout as a grown woman, Lee says:

“In the mid-1950s, I completed a novel called Go Set a Watchman […] I hadn’t realized it had survived, so was surprised and delighted when my dear friend and lawyer Tonja Carter discovered it. After much thought and hesitation I shared it with a handful of people I trust and was pleased to hear that they considered it worthy of publication. I am humbled and amazed that this will now be published after all these years.”

If its preorders are any indication, readers are excited for Go Set a Watchman as we are! The Associated Press reports that as of Wednesday evening, it was Number 1 on Amazon.com (more than five months before its official release) and To Kill a Mockingbird  ranked Number 2.
