I’m not sure about where you are, but here in Toronto the sun is shining and the snow is finally melting. Not only does the end of March mean warmer weather and lighter coats, but it also marks the quarter point of our 2014 50 Book Pledge. And want to hear something even more exciting? Together, we’re on track to read over 137,000 books this year!
How is your pledge going?
So far in 2014, I’ve read 12 books and though I’d like to blame this on 650-paged novel I read in March, I can’t. Because I read 650-pages in one weekend. If you’re looking for a murder mystery, a love letter to literature and a book you can’t put down, look no further than The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair by Joël Dicker, available in May.
Other books from my shelf that I highly recommend adding to your To Be Read shelves are: Frog Music by Emma Donoghue, The Lost Sisterhood by Anne Fortier, Bird Box by Josh Malerman and The Girl Who Was Saturday Night by Heather O’Neill (yes, Heather O’Neill of Lullabies for Little Criminals!).
In case you missed it, we’ve also added two new badges to the site since our last update in February. Now, you can earn a HCCMM badge for reading any of the Sweet Sixteen books in #HCCMarchMadness (the contest is still going on here!) and you can also earn a Frog Music badge for reading Emma Donoghue’s new novel, which I highly recommend you do. Stay tuned for new badges this month, including title-specific badges for Kenneth Oppel‘s The Boundless and Laline Paull‘s The Bees. Pledgers will also be able to receive a Jonas Jonasson badge for reading The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared or Jonas’ new novel, The Girl Who Saved The King of Sweden!
We’ve been in touch with the winners of our 50 Book Pledge Divergent giveaway. And, in case The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair peaked your interest, stay tuned for a giveaway to coincide with our Summer Sneak Peak list of the 10 Books to Read This Summer!
And enough about upcoming badges and books! What are you reading right now? Tell us below or on twitter @SavvyReader!
Happy reading, #50BookPledge-ers!
