At the end of 2013, the 50 Book Pledge community was just shy of 100,000 books read. If the first month of the 2014 pledge is any indication, we will definitely be passing that milestone this year! With just one month down, we’ve already read almost 13,500 books! Guys, we really are the *best* community of readers.
This month, we’re ready to share four really great Featured Reads with you, and are excited to celebrate some Savvy 50 Book Pledge-ers! If you receive any of the badges below, you’ll know you’re on the right reading track.
And speaking of badges…
For those of you who have read Reconstructing Amelia or Jennifer Robson‘s Somewhere in France, you may notice an additional badge on your 50 Book Pledge profile! That’s because we’ve added a new Savvy Reader Book Club Badge. For a full list of Savvy Reader Book Club picks (updated monthly), visit our custom #SRBookClub shelf here.
Now every day is #FrenzyFriday! Each month, HCC Frenzy awards one YA book their Frenzy Fave! This month’s fave is Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi, the final novel in her bestselling Shatter Me series. Each month, they’ll update this shelf with new faves. YA readers, this one’s for you!
Finally, we’re also happy to announce Classroom’s Choice, a collection of celebrated children’s books that HarperClassroom recommends sharing with the young readers in your life (or yourself, because you’re never too old to read picture books, right?!) See their shelf for books included.

What else is new? Giveaways, of course!
Last month, we hosted two giveaways on 50 Book Pledge and this month is no exception! Visit 50bookpledge.ca/contest and enter to win one of five signed copies of Somewhere in France, our February Savvy Reader Book Club Pick.
In January, I focused on reading outside of my comfort zone by picking up experimental fiction (like Laline Paull‘s The Bees, available in May) and some really, really great sci-fi: Jeff VanderMeer‘s Southern Reach Trilogy. The first book in the series, Annihilation, is on sale next week and trust me, whether you frequent sci-fi or not, this book is a must-read. (And with only 200 pages, you’ll be able to speed through it and increase the number of books on your ‘Read’ shelf!)
