Congratulations, Savvy Readers! It is the first week of July and we are officially halfway through our 50 Book Pledge!
This year, with the help of 50bookpledge.ca, we’ve been able to track our progress and share our results with friends. It’s been great to see all your reviews, blog posts and tweets! Whether your goal is to read 12 books this year or 200(!) you all should be very, very happy with your accomplishments. Here’s why:
So far this year, 3117 people have taken the pledge. Together, we have read over 48,000 books and are on pace to read over 95,000!!
I look forward to reading 50,000 books with you soon! In addition to tracking our progress, the 50 Book Pledge website highlights the most read books in our community. Here are some popular reads:
The Painted Girls by Cathy Marie Buchanan and The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson are both featured on all of our Top Reads shelves, including Top Reads, Most Popular Featured Read and Top To Be Read. These books are two of our favourites this year…
The Painted Girls is a tale of two remarkable sisters rendered uniquely vulnerable to the darker impulses of “civilized society” in Paris, 1878. The Painted Girls is a Canadian bestseller from one our country’s best novelists.
The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared is an international bestselling novel about a centenarian explosives expert with a fondness for vodka who decides it’s not too late to start over. Read Shannon‘s review here.
Veronica Roth‘s dystopian novels Divergent and Insurgent are also widely popular among 50BookPledge-ers; both books are featured in the Top Books Read (the fifth is Gillian Flynn‘s Gone Girl). If you haven’t read Divergent and Insurgent yet, we highly recommend it: Allegiant, the final installment of the trilogy, is on sale in October and the movie comes out next Spring!
Of course, we couldn’t do a 50 Book Pledge recap without including a BIG shout out to The Rosie Project. This quirky screwball romance has been on sale for a little over a month and already rocking a Top Featured Read spot! We love this book so much, but don’t just take our word for it: The Rosie Project is an international bestseller and The Globe and Mail says it “joins ranks with the best romantic comedies of our age.”
Visit 50BookPledge.ca to enter to win a summer reading pack, which includes some new books we’re excited about: The Humans, The Rosie Project, The Search Angel and The Impossible Lives of Gretta Wells.
