Review: NOS4A2 by Joe Hill

“Joe Hill is an absolutely fantastic author…. He writes spooky, fast, smart adventures, and he writes them with style and with class.” – Neil Gaiman

You can’t really beat an endorsement like that but if you need more, let me tell you why I’m such a big Joe Hill fan.

I don’t read a lot of “horror.” It’s just not my thing. Whether or not it’s because my Mom never let me watch scary movies as a kid, I’ve never really been interested. So keep that in mind when I tell you that Joe Hill’s books are TERRIFYING! Heart-Shaped Box, Hill’s first novel, is as scary as can be, and really shows his talent as a writer (honestly, he could have written Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw). Hill’s second novel, Horns, was even better as it followed the slow descent of one man into darkness as he (literally) got in touch with his devilish side.

So with NOS4A2 I was really curious to see where Hill would go next. Well, where he goes? Even darker. This is the book where Hill really spreads his wings. NOS4A2 is weird, creepy, horrifying and brilliant, and it stars two of the most menacing villains I’ve read…ever. If you read this book and don’t have nightmares about the purely evil Charlie Manx I’d rather not meet you because he stayed in my thoughts for the next few books I read.

NOS4A2 is a magical book (yes, there’s magic). It is terrifying, it is expertly written, it will thrill you. If you’ve not previously met Joe Hill, now is the time. He’s come by his talent honestly (Google his Dad) and he is a true superstar of horror.

You’re warned! I promise you WILL love this book but you will also be scared to bits.
