100 Words on… This Dark Endeavour by Kenneth Oppel

I’ve been on a bit of a YA kick recently and it was about time that I picked up some Kenneth Oppel. Wow the man can write! This Dark Endeavour is the first in a series (book 2, called Such Wicked Intent, is out the end of August!) about Victor Frankenstein in his youth. Victor’s identical twin brother Konrad falls ill and the doctors can’t figure out what’s wrong with him. Victor, with the help of his cousin Elizabeth and friend Henry, decides to take matters into his own hands and create the elixir of life – a recipe for which they found when they stumbled upon a secret dark library hidden within the Frankenstein mansion. Oppel’s writing and storytelling is superb. This book is full of adventure, love and jealousy. It’s a great series to suggest to both male and female YA readers!
